The lockdown is intended to bring the Corona situation in the country back on track. Today, 13,806 new infections were reported.

The lockdown has been in effect since midnight: public life in Austria has been massively scaled back. In view of the escalated infection situation throughout the country, the federal government had no choice but to pull the ripcord. With 15,809 new infections, a new all-time high was set on Friday, and on Sunday the next record was immediately set with 14,042 positive results. Never before had there been so many new infections on a Sunday.

Hospitals are also running at full capacity, and health workers can only hope for a quick lockdown effect. However, this will not become apparent for at least ten days. But the numbers are not going down yet:

As of Monday, November 22, 2021, authorities reported 13,806 new Corona infections and 27 deaths. A week ago, on November 15, there had been 11,889 new infections.

The healthcare system is already “working to capacity”, yet more and more Corona patients are being admitted to local hospitals every day. In the past 24 hours alone, 97 additional beds in normal wards nationwide have been assigned to Covid 19 sufferers. In total, 2,492 people are receiving medical treatment here.

The situation is even more precarious in intensive care units. As of today, a total of 562 intensive care beds are occupied by Corona patients. That is 34 more than the day before.
